25 Days of Cookies – Day 1
HAPPY DECEMBER!!! We will be kicking off this year’s 25 Days of Cookies with my favorite cookie of all time – my grandma Bray’s sugar cookie recipe. I know I post this recipe all the time, but I can’t NOT feature my favorite cookie so here you go! Happy kick off to the 25 Days of Cookies, friends, and Merry Christmas!!
Grandma Bray’s Soft Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 cup soft butter
- 1½ cup sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla
- ¾ cup sour cream
- 2 eggs
- sprinkles for topping
Instructions
- combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg then whisk together in small bowl and set aside
- in mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar then stir in vanilla
- beat in eggs until fluffy
- add flour mixture slowly, alternating between flour mixture and sour cream in 2-3 partitions – mixing until smooth between each one (note: if dough looks too sticky at the end, add more flour)
- cover bowl and chill dough for ~ 1 hour, until dough is firm
- preheat oven to 450°F
- roll out dough on a very well floured surface and cut into 2 or 3 inch circles
- sprinkle top of cookies with sprinkles
- bake 5 minutes then cover with towel while cooling
