Grandma Bray’s Apple Pie Bars

Apple pie bars with a delicious frosting! If you are looking for a way to use all those apples from apple picking (or apple picking from the grocery store) – this is it! These bars are SO good. All the apple pie flavor with a fun frosting.

Ingredients
  

Pie Crust

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 cup milk

Filling

  • 6 cups sliced apples
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • cinnamon sugar

Frosting

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsb butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • warm milk

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F
  • Mix together all ingredients for pie crust
  • Divide pie crust dough in 2
  • Roll out each of the pie crust doughs to fit a jelly roll pan
  • Place parchment paper down on bottom of jelly roll pan, spray with non stick spray and then lay down one of the pie crusts, set aside
  • In a separate bowl, mix the sugar, cinnamon and flour together and then coat the sliced apples with the mixture
  • Place the apples on top of the pie crust in the jelly roll pan and then scoop in the remaining flour/sugar/cinnamon mixture
  • Top with the other half of the pie crust then sprinkle the top with cinnamon sugar
  • Bake 35-40 minutes
  • While baking, make powdered sugar frosting by combining the butter, vanilla and powdered sugar then adding enough milk to reach desired frosting consistency
  • Frost bars with powdered sugar while still warm
