Crockpot Apple Butter

Happy Fall, Y’all! Now that Labor Day is over, it is fall in my book. Even though North Carolina is still hot and swampy as ever, all my fall decorations are up and I am officially in pumpkin spice mode. One of the first things I do every fall is make a big batch of this apple butter for the season. Not only is it always amazing, but it also makes my whole apartment smell like fall and it is EVERYTHING. So get your crockpot out and get in the festive fall spirit!

Crock Pot Apple Butter

Course Appetizer, Breakfast, Snack

Equipment

  • crock pot
  • immersion blender
  • food processor, optional

Ingredients

  • 5 lb apples peeled and diced
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  • if crockpot is too small to handle the apples, food process the apples down
  • add everything to the crockpot and mix well
  • cook on low for ~10-15 hours, until apple butter thickens
  • when cooked down, use an immersion blender to blend apple butter until smooth
  • if too runny, cook on low for a few more hours until desired consistency is reached

Notes

This recipe is a really good base, but you are going to want to taste test along the way to reach desired flavor as different apples have different flavors
I like to use honeycrisp apples or braeburn apples for this
Don’t be alarmed if it takes much longer than 10-15 hours, just keep cooking until the apple butter gets to the consistency you want it!
If you don’t have an immersion blender, a regular blender or food processor would also work
