Grandma Bray's Soft Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup soft butter
  • cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • ¾ cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • sprinkles for topping

Instructions
 

  • combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg then whisk together in small bowl and set aside
  • in mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar then stir in vanilla
  • beat in eggs until fluffy
  • add flour mixture slowly, alternating between flour mixture and sour cream in 2-3 partitions - mixing until smooth between each one (note: if dough looks too sticky at the end, add more flour)
  • cover bowl and chill dough for ~ 1 hour, until dough is firm
  • preheat oven to 450°F
  • roll out dough on a very well floured surface and cut into 2 or 3 inch circles
  • sprinkle top of cookies with sprinkles
  • bake 5 minutes then cover with towel while cooling
